Federal Government: Major funding boost for frontline domestic violence services to be announced on Monday

Frontline domestic violence services will see a $43 million boost, with the Federal Government to announce on Monday a new funding agreement with WA. Under the renewed five-year National Partnership Agreement on Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Responses, both Federal and State Labor will spend an extra $43 million each for projects on the ground to help prevent and respond to family, domestic and sexual violence. Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth said the agreement would help towards a goal to end gender-based violence in one generation. “Addressing the rates of family, domestic and sexual violence has been one of my top priorities since becoming Minister for Social Services, and I am proud of what our government has achieved in just a short amount of time,” Ms Rishworth said. “The matched State and Commonwealth funding for Western Australia will continue to provide those on the frontline with the resources and support they need to bring about positive change and help people impacted by family, domestic and sexual violence, whether they are in crisis or starting their journey of recovery and healing. “I’m so pleased Western Australia is the first State to sign onto the new partnership agreement and we will continue to work in tandem with all states and territories to ensure that the safety and wellbeing of all women and children is paramount, no matter their circumstance or location.” WA Minister Sabine Winton described the funding as crucial for frontline service providers. “The funding will continue to support the incredible work being done on the ground by community outreach services, women’s refuges, and the family and domestic violence sector,” Ms Winton said. “It builds on the Cook Government’s long-standing commitment to addressing the scourge of family and domestic violence.” If you or someone you know is experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, domestic, family, or sexual violence, you call the National Helpline 1800 RESPECT on 1800 737 732, text 0458 737 732 or visit www.1800RESPECT.org.au for online chat and video call services.
