Anneli Maley, Ally Wilson, Laeticia Amihere and Alex Ciabattoni star for Perth Lynx in win over Adelaide

Perth Lynx coach Ryan Petrik says his team’s 92-78 win over Adelaide Lightning was filled with character as they ended their three games in eight days with another victory.. The Lynx were handed the toughest draw in the WNBL to start the season and had little time to prepare for Adelaide given they played in WA on Wednesday night. Adelaide had en entire week to get ready for the Lynx. Petrik said his team had done a remarkable job to now be 2-1, especially after losing co-captain Amy Atwell on the eve of the season. “I’m really proud of how this group has responded,” he said “We went into game one with our game plan essentially revolving around Atwell and we lost her two days before the first game. “So we’ve been caught on the hop and to then play three games in eight days - especially this one where Adelaide were sitting here all week waiting for us whereas we started on them today - and it showed in the first quarter.” The Lynx trailed by 10 points during the first quarter before taking over the game. Import Laeticia Amihere launched the fightback and scored 17 points for the night. Alex Ciabattoni was tenacious with 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Ally Wilson battled through not being able to see well out of her left eye after a collision against Townsville and still finished with 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Miela Sowah was impressive again with 13 points and captain Anneli Maley starred with 18 points and 12 rebounds. “You kind of put her on the court and just expect that from her which is wild,” Petrik said. “You can take her for granted sometimes. But when you watch the game back, you go gee she’s good. If there’s a loose ball, she’ll get it. If there’s a 50-50 ball, she’ll get it. If there’s a tough play to do, she will do it. You just kind of expect it. and when you watch it back you realise just how good she is. “She’s the one huddling them all together and getting them on track. We had a brutal film session after the Townsville game and she was the first one to pick them back up again. She’s been amazing. She’s been such a good get for this club.” The Lynx have another quick turnaround this week with an away game in Canberra on Thursday.
