Perth Scorchers star Josh Inglis has inked a contract extension and will stay at the Big Bash powerhouse until at least the end of next season.

The Australian white-ball wicket-keeper was already contracted at the Scorchers for this season.

Inglis is the club’s third-highest run-scorer and sits fifth on the list of games played for the club.

The contract extension comes just days after Inglis was picked for Australia’s one-day international series against Pakistan next month.

“I love being a part of this group and playing for the Scorchers and playing Big Bash cricket at The Furnace over that Christmas period, it’s really special,” Inglis said.

“I’m really excited to sign on.”

The gloveman’s availability for the Scorchers this summer will be shaped by his potential selection for a two-Test series against Sri Lanka in January that could rule him out of the tail-end of the tournament.

There is a strong chance he is picked on that tour as a back-up to Alex Carey.

In an interview with The West Australian this week, Scorchers cricket boss Kade Harvey said he would love to see Inglis make a Test debut.

“We’ve had a steady stream of that (international selection) over the last little bit and we’d love to see a Josh Inglis or a Lance Morris make a Test debut, that would be big for us as well,” he said.

Inglis said he was looking forward to playing with Finn Allen again. The pair were both at the San Francisco Unicorns in the most recent Major League Cricket season.

They could be a chance to open the batting together, but Inglis was coy on what his own role would look like.

“He’ll bring a lot of energy around the group, he likes to think of himself as a bit of a joker and a funny guy,” he said.

“I think he’ll fit in really nicely around this group and his cricket speaks for itself.”

Inglis said it was “huge” that Allen was available for the full tournament. The New Zealand international has signed on a two-year deal.
