Victorian fielder Mitch Perry has gone horizontal to claim a stunning catch in the tense Sheffield Shield final against WA at the WACA.

WA looked in control of the game after dismissing the visitors for 195 and moving to 0-42 unchallenged.

But a mini-collapse of 4-11, capped off by Perry’s blinder, brought Victoria roaring back into the contest.

Fielding at point, Perry was on his toes as Hilton Cartwright pummelled a short, wide ball with a cut shot, looking to get off the mark.

Launching to his left, the Victorian pushed his hands towards the ball, plucking it out of mid-air and completing a dive for style points.

Once he landed, he was like a cat, taking off in celebrations with teammates striding to catch up.

Bowler Will Sutherland looked stunned and relieved as the catch gave him his third scalp.

Cartwright walked off with a grim face.

It left WA in a precarious position at 4-53 with Aaron Hardie and Ashton Turner fresh to the crease.

Earlier in the day, the reigning champs needed just 35 balls to take the remaining two wickets of Victoria’s first innings.

The Vics started the second day on 8-194 and added just one run to be bowled out for 195.

Opener Ashley Chandrasinghe didn’t add to his overnight tally of 46, despite facing 14 deliveries, carrying his bat during a remarkable 280-ball knock.

No. 10 Todd Murphy (0) only lasted two balls of Lance Morris chin music, awkwardly guiding the second one to Josh Philippe, who completed his fifth of dismissal of the innings.

Philippe then took a regulation catch off seamer Matthew Kelly soon after to get rid of tail-ender Scott Boland for one.
