Perth’s own Damon “The Heat” Heta has ignited his campaign at the 2024/25 PDC World Darts Championship

The Aussie advanced to the third round following a commanding 3-1 victory over England’s Connor Scutt at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace.

Heta, currently ranked ninth globally, showcased his exceptional skill and composure against Scutt, a familiar practice partner.

He narrowly missed a nine-dart finish, just missing double 12, underscoring his precision and competitive edge.

This triumph propels Heta into a third-round showdown with England’s Luke Woodhouse on Friday December 27.

Woodhouse, who secured his spot by defeating Mike De Decker in a closely contested 3-2 match, will present a formidable challenge.

Transitioning from a roofer to a professional darts player, Heta’s ascent in the darts world has been remarkable.

He gained international attention by winning the 2019 Brisbane Darts Masters.

His career highlights include clinching the World Cup of Darts alongside Simon Whitlock in 2022 and securing multiple Players Championship titles, with his most recent victory in August 2024.

As the sole Australian remaining in the tournament, Heta carries the hopes of a nation eager for darts glory.

His unwavering focus and consistent high-level performances have made him a formidable contender on the global stage.

Looking ahead to his match against Woodhouse, Heta remains confident yet grounded.

“Every game at this level is tough,” he said.

“I’ll bring my best and aim to keep the momentum going.”

Fans can catch all the action live as Heta continues his pursuit of the prestigious Sid Waddell Trophy, with the third-round match broadcast on Fox Sports.
