Just a day after the Perth Scorchers were given the flick from the Big Bash, star pair Jason Behrendorff and Ashton Turner said goodbye to Perth and headed to the SA20 in South Africa.

The West Australian understands the pair flew out of Western Australia on Monday to join Pretoria Capitals in South Africa’s lucrative and recently revamped national T20 competition.

Perth’s season came down to the last game of the home-and-away fixture, with the five-time champions needing Hobart Hurricanes to defeat Melbourne Stars at the MCG to remain in the top four.

However, the men in purple were less than impressive in a big loss, having already sealed the minor premiership and a finals berth ahead of the clash.

The West Australian pair are a massive signing for the Capitals, who sit fifth out of the six teams with just one win from five matches, including having given up a chase of 213.

Behrendorff finished the regular Big Bash season as the leading wicket-taker with 17 at an incredible 17.41, while Turner, who leads the Scorchers as skipper, finished with the 10th most runs in the competition ahead of finals with 240 at 34.28.

They will narrowly miss out on reuniting with former Scorchers import and power-packed English batter Liam Livingstone as they replace him and Evin Lewis for the second half of the tournament.

The Pretoria squad also features Will Jacks as well as South African Test players Anrich Nortje and Kyle Verreynne, who could face Australia in the World Test Championship final in June.

Marcus Stoinis could link up with Durban’s Super Giants should the Stars be eliminated from the BBL finals before the decider.

All six teams in SA20 are owned by franchises who field their main teams in the Indian Premier League.

However, Cricket South Africa owns the majority stake in the competition overall.
