Augsburg have defeated Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1, savouring their second victory of the Bundesliga season.

Keven Schlotterbeck fired a classy opening goal into the roof of the net in the 39th minute on Friday night before Alexis Claude-Maurice made it 2-0 in the 66th with his maiden top-flight goal.

Augsburg hoped for the first clean sheet of the season but conceded in the 72nd from a header by Tim Kleindienst the day after he was brought into the German national team squad for the first time for upcoming Nations League games.

It was the 15th goal against Augsburg in six matches but they at least held out to secure full points and move past Gladbach up into 11th place.

"I am happy with the goal but most important are the three points. We are happy to celebrate the victory," Schlotterbeck said.

Kleindienst admitted that "we weren't good enough" and "conceded easy goals."

Matchday six continues on the weekend, culminating in a table-topper on Sunday between Eintracht Frankfurt and leaders Bayern Munich. If Frankfurt win they will go top for the first time in 25 years.
