Boulder overcame a sluggish start and late inaccuracy to hold off reigning premiers Kalgoorlie last weekend by eight points, 4.8 (32) to 4.0 (24), in the Goldfields Football League’s women’s competition.

In a result that moved them within a game of second-placed Railways, the Tigers trailed by 15 points at half-time.

But they rallied for three goals in the third term and while five behinds was modest return for an otherwise solid last quarter, Boulder’s defence held the two-time defending champions scoreless after half-time.

Boulder’s goals were shared among Christina Bevan, Paris Ulijn, Tiana Jones and Teresa Stokes, while Jemma Leeson booted three for Kalgoorlie.

Kalgoorlie have just two wins, but are all but assured finals action at the expense of Kambalda who sit two games and a big percentage deficit outside the top-four.

Also last weekend, Torrie Revell and Chanelle Halligan each booted six goals in Mines Rovers’ big win against Kambalda, 22.20 (152) to 0.0 (0).

The Diorites moved into outright first place — a game clear of Railways — after they piled on 14 goals in the first half against the second-year Eagles.

It could have been worse for Kambalda, but Mines Rovers butchered the ball inside their 50m arc for 2.12 in the third term before adding 6.4 in the run home.

Round 13 will be played on Saturday when Kalgoorlie host Mines Rovers at Sir Richard Moore Sport Centre at 9am.

The clash between Kambalda and Railways at Kambalda West Oval starts at 11am.

Ladder:

Mines Rovers 34 points; Railways 30; Boulder 24; Kalgoorlie 8; Kambalda 0.
