VideoAFL bosses have come under fire for not reaching out to AFLW star Kate Dempsey following the league's social media fail.

Michael Frederick knows one player can’t win Fremantle a premiership — but he can’t wait to play alongside star recruit Shai Bolton all the same.

The Dockers used three first-round draft picks to secure Bolton from Richmond during the trade period in a move that should elevate them closer to their goal of a breakthrough flag.

The 25-year-old dual premiership Tiger is likely to split his time between midfield and attack, meaning Frederick will get a chance to spend plenty of time alongside a player he’s admired from afar as a rival.

“It’s pretty cool. He’s one that I’ve watched for a little bit,” Frederick said at Fremantle’s Kimberley 9s carnival launch in Broome.

“I like watching a lot of the Indigenous small forwards, and Banners (Bailey Banfield) and I have had the pleasure of being teammates with Sonny (Michael Walters) for a while now. To add Shai to that will just be even better.

“Someone like (Bolton) adding his talents to the team should be able to take us a long way, but obviously, one person doesn’t get us wins.

“We have always done that as a collective since I’ve been at the club, and I know that’s been the way to go about it for a number of years.”

Frederick said he wasn’t concerned about his spot in the side as the Dockers get set to face a selection squeeze with Bolton’s arrival.

“We have got a good forward line with a lot of younger guys and just a lot of guys thriving at the moment, like Jye (Amiss) and Joshy (Treacy) and then playing with Banners and Switta (Sam Switkowski) and Tommy Emmett getting games, and Sam Sturt... it’s a good group of guys to be around, so I don’t think it will hinder much of where I play, to be honest,” he said.

“It will be cool to suit up alongside him, and he will bring his special talents to the team and bring us along for the ride to hopefully finals footy next year, so it’s exciting.”

Frederick, who managed 23 goals in 2024, also asked fans to keep faith that the club was moving in the right direction despite bottling a top-four chance to miss finals altogether this season.

“2025 is looking exciting, and I know this year was a bit disappointing in the way that it finished, but I know that we are not too far away,” he said.

“If fans keep sticking around, I have faith in where we can get to next year, and I’m sure we’re not too far away from a bit of success.

“It’s almost a bit surreal that we have got someone so talented in the trade period. I’m sure all the forwards, and not just the forwards but the whole squad will look forward to suiting up with him and seeing what he can do on the field.

“I’m sure all the fans would love to see him taking screamers and kicking unbelievable goals like he did in that Dreamtime game a few years ago at Optus.

“Hopefully, we can see that every week and put a few smiles on fans’ faces and teammates’ faces — would be good.”
